Protesting in La Spezia

I met these lovely Italian teachers and elders one evening protesting about the military going into schools in Italy and drumming up support and recruits for war. There is apparently no balancing peace education. Even in infant school.

It all started when I was taking photos of Garibaldi’s wonderful horse in La Spezia. I noticed these two lovely women doing something very familiar to me: writing a placard in a quiet public space. Orelle, Julia and I got into a lovely jigsaw of Italian and English conversation about protesting and causes we care about. They were very excited that I wanted to come along to their peace protest.

Various detailed and headline banners were taped to the pavement

I was introduced around the group. A biology teacher loved the photos of Scientist Rebellion worldwide blindfolded statues. We all swapped contact details. It feels good to expand the network of people who care.

Baspie dog was popular with everyone of course, including on the train back to Levanto, where he sat at someone else’s feet!
